Death by Committee

Robert may or may not be right about the sound of Windows Vista, but boy he sure nails the point of death by committee. There is a point of balance that needs to be struck between making sure that ideas are subjected to scrutiny that improves them and a process that squashes creativity and voice. Herewith, the Frank Shaw Creativity Review Law: After ten reviews, you might as well start over. Put another way, if 10 people review a document, piece of music, film, anything that requires creativity, the end product will have lost 90 percent of its impact. Time to start over!

Now I just need Chris Anderson to write an article on this point. ;)

Amen to that!  Can you imagine if the Beatles had to secure approval from some random group of suits to get 'The White Album' approved?  Going for, as Robert puts it, 'the sound that won't piss anyone off' is the same thing as going for 'the sound that no-one will truly love,' either.  Lesson from the world of sports: you play the game to WIN, not to try not to LOSE.

And this tells us that COURAGE is one of the most important aspects of personal growth, not just in business but in any endeavor.  Just get out there with the ideas and take those risks.  Courage paired with creativity makes the world a better place.
