Via a link from Chris Anderson, we can all look at the scads of money noted blogger Guy Kawasaki raked in last year via his popular blog. Or not. :) Turns out there was not much direct money in this for Guy. But money aside, here is the piece that resonated for me:
Most disappointing realization: After a week, most postings are “gone.” Perhaps people’s expectations of blogs are so low that they don’t consider them reference sources. Hence, I have to write another book. My challenge is that I have three tasks: answering email, blogging, and writing a book, and I can only do two. :-)
Amen. I have huge admiration for all those people out there who seem to be able to effortlessly dash off blog posts that are insightful and thoughtful, hit the speaker circuit, hold down paying jobs and the like. My observation as someone with a day job :) and who's employer encourages me to blog, is that there are only so many good communication molecules in my body on any given day. When things are cooking at work, those molecules don't end up on the blog. :)
Btw, CES is coming up -- been sort of busy. See people there!
PS
It is nice to see that Guy struggles with this too -- I remember years ago reading something he wrote and dropping him a quick email saying it was great, and getting a reply via his Newton 210 in something like 10 minutes. It was an inspiration to me...
