Chris Anderson does a great thing in his blog today --he picks the top incorrect criticisms of the Long Tail and debunks them all at once. What a smart use of a blog. It is a perfect example of how a strong linkage between a book and a blog can be such a value add to readers. One of my main critiques of the Long Tail has been less about the theory and more about how people talk about and apply it -- I keep sending people to the Wikipedia entry for Long Tail, even though I see Chris is involved in commenting on the page, which I think is good, but what do I know about Wiki politics. ;) But back to the topic at hand -- there is such a huge value to Chris AND readers of his blog in having the two be so tightly linked. Anyone writing a book would be nuts not to look at this what Chris has done here and replicate it.
