Six weeks to Beat the Bridge. With the race day in sight, it's time to turn up the speed. When I moved to Seattle, my brother and I decided to run the race together for the first time in more than a decade, and to run it as fast as we did about 12 years ago. What seemed pretty doable in October seems a bit harder today, and the time horizon is shrinking! So, it was off to the track today to get a gut check and start working those fast twitch muscles... speedwork time. At the track, two half mile intervals, a three quarter mile interval, a mile interval, two more half mile intervals, all below goal race pace and the fastest splits coming for the last half mile.
There was plenty of time to ask myself what the heck I was doing, killing myself for a self-imposed goal that only my brother and I would know if we didn't reach. Why bother? Well, turns out it's only a goal if you're willing to work at it. Otherwise, it's just a dream.
