I find it fascinating that on Friday the top meme on techmeme was Yahoo and Microsoft hooking up. (as previously noted, Microsoft is my client). By the end of the day, that rumor had been put to bed, and the blogosphere was moving on. Today, I see that the top entry is that there is a Zune announcement tomorrow. Now, the blogs didn't start the first rumor -- that was the NY Post, aided and abetted by the WSJ. But the blogs sure poured the fuel on, and anytime that bastion of accuracy the NY Post can pop a stock price the way Yahoo popped on Friday, wow.
The Zune thing is starting in the blogs. Will it be more accurate? I'm not saying. ;)
But I will say this -- accuracy is more important than ever in a world where news travels so fast. Like it or not, blogs are a part of this rapidly shifting world -- accuracy is as important for bloggers is it is for anyone else.
Thus endeth the lecture.
