TV Sees Big Drop

Wow, pretty sobering story for the entertainment industry -- if true, this data shows that 2.5 million fewer people are watching TV this year compared to last. I say "if true" because I think the numbers are a bit off -- people are watching the same amojnt of TV, but as the article notes, doing it on their schedule. Other than sports, I can't think of any TV I watch in real time.

What does this mean? Big media events will get bigger, and more ads will pour into those -- everything else will drop.

I think they need a new way to measure viewership that takes recording into account. I rarely watch real-time TV because I *own* my free time and have to ration it very carefully. Being able to watch an hour show in ~42 minutes times five shows saves me mondo time and can be done when my batteries are recharging.  :o)
