Age Means Nothing

The debate (if you can call it that) over the weekend was about age and impact. Dave Winer has something close to the last word. This is not a win or lose debate, and I can see points on both sides. However, thank's to a blog post by Charles Fitzgerald, I'm reading "The Black Swan." In this context, the discussion about age and the ability to do a breakthrough startup makes a bit of sense. When I was younger than I am now, I did things simply because I didn't know I wasn't supposed to be able to do them. That *is* a quality that is harder to hold onto as experience becomes both an asset and an anchor.

My youngest daughter *loves* climbing trees, rocks, monkey bars, pretty much any vertical or near vertical surface. I've been watching youtube videos of parkour with her, just to reinforce that sense the entire world is a playground, and that often what looks like the impossible is just practice in action.

A great practice, Frank. I've been watching those same videos with my seven year old.

Which is probably why I spent Saturday in emergency after he jumped off the playground swing at its apex.

Fibreglass cast on his arm, of course, so he can keep up his daredevil ways.

:-)

Ah, bummer. The videos sure make it look easy...but gravity always wins in the end.
