I was catching up on some blog reading this morning, and came across Anil Dash writing about bottled water. It's a summation of a pretty powerful piece in Fast Company, and really drives home two points, one germane to this blog, and the second less so.
First, it showcases one of the prime attributes of blogging from a communications standpoint -- the ability to take an existing piece of work and amplify/add credibility via a blog post. I'm sure more people will read the article in Fast Company than will see in Anil's post, but I'm also certain that people who read what Anil has to say will be more deeply affected, because they have, in a sense, an existing trust relationship with him, so he confers additional authority and attention to the piece. I don't see this as the same as the echo chamber, where everyone says the same thing, but more of an amplification chamber, if such a thing exists.
Second, my already low consumption of bottled water will drop even further. There's a drinking fountain where I work, and I swear I'm the only person to ever use it. What's up w/ that?!
