Who Cares About Accuracy?

It's all about traffic. See here how TechCrunch "reported" that Scoble was leaving PodTech, doing so while Robert was actually on stage, and managed to get the details wrong -- as in no job has been finalized yet. Robert is being a class guy here, but when you look at the multiple errors showing up in Valleywag and now this, it's fair to ask -- where is any desire for accuracy and accountability?

Plus, let's just remember for a minute that we're talking about real people here, not just cardboard cutouts. It's not that far of a stretch to think that the TechCrunch post, coming as it did when there were no final job offers for Robert, could have resulted in unemployment. I guess that's a small price to pay for the potential to drive traffic.

Your post highlights the dangers of bloggers like Techcrunch and Valleyway.  Their pursuit of audience makes them more irrelevant and it hurts the user experience of blogs.  Techcrunch timed this for their advantage and Scobles.  Scoble looks like a jerk and if I'm fastcompany I'd be worried that he is in essence is acting like someone who will exploit the company.  If I'm Fastcompany I'd reject hiring him.

Not quite clear how Robert ends up looking like a jerk here.

Arrington is the jerk and anyone who reads MoneyCrunch or Valleywiggle should know they are reading gossip.

Well this explains why I haven't seen anything from Scoble on this.

Valleywag.  I'd trust them about as much as I trust the National Enquirer.

Adam: I wrote about this here: http://scobleizer.com/2007/12/12/its-your-business/

This was not planned release on my part. Certainly I wouldn't have had this come out as a surprise (to me) while I'm on a panel on stage. It would have been nice to have had some time to react.
