A Ray of Light

I was doing my usual morning news feed read, newspaper slog and email review, and I was getting depressed. Every single piece of news was grim -- economy bad, politics in shambles, food prices up, gas prices up, mortgages not working the way they should, bad news abroad, bad news locally (really? 10 new ideas to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct before it falls down?).

So it was a welcome break to read George Vecsey's column about a softball game where sportsmanship ruled the day. It's worth a read, as is the ESPN story. My day feels better already. :)

Beating a dead horse here...it is not just print journalism that is suffering from the ecllipse of sensational bad news (the subject, not necessarily the copy...) it is also radio and TV. So it was refreshing last week on NPR'S All Things Considered when, after a nearly 50-minute grind of depressing and gloomy stories, they finished with a story about Vintage Baseball. (http://wiki.vbba.org/) It was a breath of fresh air.

If I subscribe to satelite radio, will I get the "Warm and Fuzzy News Channel?" ;-)

I for one am going to listen the last 10 minutes of ATC from now on...
