It is so odd to find a print publication as aloof from the web as Harper's. As I've written before, Harper's is not all that happy to be part of the web. Which is a bummer, because there is some good stuff in there, and their brand would be a lot more powerful if there was even just a smidge of an opening. As it is, the web site is awful, the linking is non-existent and the experience is frustrating. But the publication is good....go figure.
Last night, in a fit of insomnia, I plowed through the current issue, enjoying a thought-provoking piece on the phony economy by Jonathan Rowe; a cover story on the rift in the Episcopal church that was sort of hard to get through, and a truly odd story about looking for drowned bodies using sidescan radar.
A reminder, I suppose, that even in a truly converged media world separate can still be successful. So noted, and hey Harper's work on the website.
