One of the challenges for any product introduction and evolution is finding the right balance between hype/delivery. Too much hype (think Segway or the original Newton) and the product sinks under the weight of expectations created by PR. Too little buzz and the product doesn't even hit the radar of people thinking about buying. In a lot of ways, I think Amazon has done a good job with Kindle -- the original product got solid reviews, but was positioned as for early adopters. Now, I'm starting to see buzz build for the next version of the product, which I personally really really want. Having just schlepped a bunch of books on and off planes and through airports, the idea of moving away from this is hugely attractive.
